Step forward and BAM!!!

It's always better to walk on four legs.
After living in the dark for five months, the march sun somehow scrambles out of nowhere, gleaming brightly that you can't even open your eyes. I do think Finnish people are plants. Smiles spread across their faces when there is sun, just like plants blossoming and enjoying photosynthesis. But, before this enjoyable moment, many need to undergo a painful adrenaline-rising process, a.k.a slipping.

The dangerous period is when the temperature fluctuates around 0 degree, and water, God's gift to us is so versatile, snow melts and freezes into a plate of hard ice while you are having your sweet dreams. Then, a new start for a new day, you walk or run or drag your pace to work or to school or wherever you intend or do not want to go, suddenly here comes a jerk and the next second you are not standing two legs on ground.

There are different styles of going down, depends on your personal taste though the situation is not in your hand. You can either hit hard on your butt, which can be a so-called cushion for yourself or your knee kneels down dignifiedly. Welcome to contribute your style.

And yes, this can be one of the loveliest moments in your life. How often can you taste so many different emotions all at once? Usually, (if there are) some big-hearted grey-haired grannies would feel sorry for you : "Ooohhhh, that's hard..."

You think Finnish people are so used to their own winter because they are born here, live here, eat here and sleep here. Nah. Some genius has invented removable spikes which you can add under your shoes but in order to look cool, even they are just wearing sweatpants, no one put them on. eg. me.

This is also a superb practice for balance. You will somehow stand still in the end, proudly, after wriggling, waving and wincing. Of course no pain no gain. Fall is a must before you know how to walk. This is the universal rule.

Every year, I wonder how many old mamas get killed. Sorry but nature has the power to kill us, really.

This is typed sheerly out of my frustration and pain fullstop

  1. Just the other day when I was working some granny came in and was wondering why the newspapers weren't all complaining about how old people are filling up all the hospitals because they've slipped and fell! She figured that it was still true but the newspapers just had other issues to talk about haha... Kinda sad though! :(

  3. It's like thousands of them get the fractured hips and die from it due the lack of immobility for some time. And it is like the most common cause of accident during the wintertime.

Nowadays they actually have this pedesterian warning system, where you can get an SMS warning, if the weather ought to be superbly slippery and you should be cautious.

What comes for falling-styles, I've noticed that the relaxed ragdoll is the best way - if you don't fight the slip and just head as softly as you can as low as you can, the fall won't hurt and there's just a litthe thud. The other option of trying to desparately stay up and on your feet just leads to painful recovery-moves with over-stretched muscles and eventually to the non-gracefull fall.
Another one I've been also doing on last winter was the "telemark"-pose, where I fall on one knee. For some silly reason I was always slipping forward/backward with one leg and doing the compelete spagate didn't seem like that favourable option.... thus, several times, in the pose ready to propose! :D

So next winter, try the relaxed ragdoll! :D
